The characteristic is the inability of the body to digest milk sugar (lactose). It is a natural accompanying phenomenon of the adult body of human life, because milk was originally fed to infants. However, in some racial groups, especially Europeans, long-term milk consumption has shifted to lactose tolerance. If intolerance occurs in infants, it is a disease.
Lactose intolerance is often confused with milk allergy. The main difference between these metabolic disorders is in the causes of the disease, while in lacrosse intolerance the disease is caused by a deficiency of the enzyme lactase, which breaks down milk sugar, milk allergy is the body's immune response to milk proteins.
