Treat your body to a well-deserved relaxation after daily exertion.
BookingIt is a water-soluble vitamin, important for maintaining life and health. It has many important functions in the body, it is sensitive to temperature changes and oxidation, its chemical name is ascorbic acid with the formula C6H8O6.
Most animals and plants synthesize this vitamin on their own and do not need any additives, people do not know how to create this vitamin, so it is necessary to supplement it. Due to its rich representation in nature, its lack for people was not a more serious problem.
Arrows, sea buckthorn, citrus, potatoes and vegetables are very rich in vitamin C from plant sources.
Vitamin C is lost during heat treatment of food (including heating in a microwave oven). Processing reduces the nutrient content by about 10% every 5 minutes of cooking, drying up to 50%, steaming is more gentle. Conservation and blanching cause large losses. Vitamin C decomposes by oxidation and more rapidly at higher temperatures. It disappears at room temperature during the month. It is best to freeze the source of vitamin C or prevent oxidation.
Vitamin C is required for amino acid metabolism, in particular for the formation of the uncoded amino acids hydroxylisine and hydroxy proline. This contributes to the synthesis of collagen. Its deficiency is manifested by lower strength of the ligament apparatus, lower strength of the vessel wall and increased bleeding. It is also needed in the process of tissue respiration, supports the absorption of iron stimulates the formation of white blood cells, the development of bones, teeth, cartilage supports growth, participates in the antioxidant protection of cells by reducing radicals.
Megadoses of vitamin C are not recommended in kidney stones or in patients with renal insufficiency, or in iron accumulation (thalassemia, haemochromatosis, sideroblastic anemia). In lung disease (eg obstructive and restrictive bronchial and pulmonary disease) up to 7.5 g per day, as higher doses can lead to acute dyspnoea Ascorbic acid may interfere with anticoagulants (coumarin derivatives).
The daily dose of 100 to 500 mg ascorbic acid should not be exceeded during pregnancy or lactation. Ascorbic acid is excreted in human milk and crosses the placental barrier. Manifestations of deficiency slow growth, rapid decay of teeth, impaired bone structure, bleeding, joint deformities, more frequent infections, increased fatigue, decreased milk production. An extreme example is a disease called Scorpion, which is manifested by anemia, bleeding, joint swelling, gums, tooth loss, bone fragility, sterility, infections, muscle atrophy, stomach ulcers.
Acute toxicity is low, due to overdose irritation of the stomach and gastrointestinal tract. Excess is excreted by the kidneys.
The recommended daily dose is 90 mg / day male and 80 mg / day female. For athletes, the daily need is more than the reference given, as for a sedentary lifestyle for healing and oxidative damage processes. We can include smokers, pregnant and breastfeeding women, the elderly, people with increased physical and mental stress in this group. So we can say that vitamin C supplementation is desirable.
In the food industry, ascorbic acid is used to reduce oxidation in food, reduces fat oxidation, so it is used in the preservation of sausages, where it helps maintain red color.
